Lions Clubs & Childhood Cancer

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service organisation, with over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries. Here in the British Isles, Lions work every day to make a difference in their communities through volunteering, fundraising, and hands-on service.

One of our global causes is Childhood Cancer. Each year, thousands of children and young people face the reality of cancer treatment, and Lions are committed to bringing them comfort, hope, and practical support. Across the UK, Lions Clubs partner with hospitals, charities, and community groups to provide care packages, fund equipment, and back projects that make a meaningful impact for families.

Caps of Courage

Caps of Courage is part of that mission. By uniting volunteers to knit, crochet, and sew handmade caps, Lions are helping to bring warmth, confidence, and smiles to children and young people affected by cancer.

Every cap is a symbol of kindness, community, and courage.

Lions Projects for Children and Young People in the UK

Alongside Caps of Courage, Lions Clubs across the UK run a range of projects that support, inspire, and empower children and young people. These include:

  • Lions ChildSight UK – providing free vision screening in schools to help detect undiagnosed sight problems early, giving children the best start in education.

  • Peace Poster Competition – encouraging young people to express their creativity and vision for peace through art, with entries judged locally, nationally, and internationally.

  • ROAR (Research, Observe, Action, Results) – a school-based programme that inspires primary school children to think big, develop ideas, and create solutions that can change the world.

  • Young Leaders in Service – recognising and celebrating the hours of service that young people give to their communities each year, building confidence and leadership skills.

  • Lions Young Ambassador Award – highlighting the achievements of extraordinary young people aged 15–18 who are making a real difference in their communities.

  • International Youth Camps and Exchange – offering young people opportunities to connect with others from around the world, experience different cultures, and build friendships across borders.

Through these projects, Lions Clubs provide opportunities for children and young people to grow, learn, and thrive, while ensuring they are supported to achieve their full potential.
